This section contains articles which contain general information about the subject of driving while intoxicated or under the influence of drugs.  Articles contained in this section are more global in nature, dealing with the overall societal impact of these types of cases and include specific information about the number of deaths, injuries, and property damage that result from DWI crashes.

• Impaired Driving in Texas Source- Government | This seven-page abstract, is a report produced for NHTSA at the Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation.  It contains Texas-specific statistics outlining the incidence of impaired driving, and resultant costs in crashes, injuries, and deaths.  Costs are broken down per alcohol related injury, and per vehicle mile driven.  The article also discusses prevention measures such as administrative license revocation, minimum drinking age, zero-tolerance laws, and graduated licensing, and estimates savings that would result from sobriety checkpoints, ignition interlock, and other interventions targeting repeat offenders.

• Traffic Safety Facts: Vehicle and License Plate Sanctions Source- Government | This four-page abstract contains an overview of vehicle and license plate sanctions that have been imposed across the nation and also contains national statistics on first time and repeat DWI offenders.  It also references research programs conducted in Maryland, Ohio, California, Illinois, Minnesota, Washington, Oregon, and internationally on the effect vehicle sanctions can have on repeat offenders.
